Tiedo breathes, eats, talks and lives music. He was born in 1965 in Adelaide, capital city of South-Australia. His parents soon relocated to the Netherlands, where Tiedo grew up.
From early childhood on he sang and played with numerous bands. His first serious claim to fame came with I Zimbra, a band that graced the second half of the eighties with jumpy, non-conforming music. They toured at home and also behind the Iron Curtain, playing for a crowd of 50.000 in Vilnius (Lithuania).
When I Zimbra broke up, out of its ashes a new band mushroomed, Tiedo & Plan K., with Tiedo prominently seeking the front spot. The musical style shifted down a few gears, allowing for more folky and mellow elements.
In these crucial years Tiedo defined his own musical style: crystal-clear songs, intelligent but not high-browed, with subtle twists and turns, suspenseful, but never turning away from the listener.
Tiedo & Plan K. toured intensively through the Netherlands and recorded the CD 'Soul Jet'. The album was received with high praises, the track 'As I Was Given The Look' became a minor radio-hit and today still is one of Tiedo’s favourite songs in his live set.
Though Tiedo was always happy to play live concerts with a band, his creative urge sought for a more personal expression. He had been home-taping his music ever since he was 15 years old, and had become rather skillful at that.
While expanding his home studio, he increasingly developed a unique style. Well, truth is: Tiedo can produce a tender love song as well as the sound of a rock band at full blast, all by himself in his living room.
The results are breathtaking. Tiedo released two albums packed with superb songs and gorgeous ditties: 'Short Stories' (1999) and 'Where My Dream Can Take Me' (2001).
“When you listen to the album you can hear I’m enjoying myself. The songs more or less wrote themselves, without any conscious efforts on my part. It would be impossible to create such an uninhibited, care-free ambience anywhere else. My studio has its limitations, but I have learned to maximise its potential”, as Tiedo told a newspaper reporter.
2008 sees the birth of his latest album, it’s 'The Bend Or Break'.
